With temperatures in the mountains still too hot for hiking, today’s route will take us along Mission Bay and the Pacific Coast from Mission Point Park to La Jolla Cove (7.1 miles). Following lunch at the Cove, we will catch the #30 bus to Crystal Pier, from where we will walk the final 2.9 miles back to Mission Point Park, for a total of 10 miles. The walk is mostly flat and on pavement, so tennis or comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Bring snack, lunch, water and EXACT fare for the bus ($2.25 if under 60/$1.10 if 60+). The hike begins at 8:30am. Directions to Mission Point Park: Take I-5 to Sea World Drive/Tecolote Road exit. Drive west on Sea World Drive 1.6 miles and use the right lane to merge onto West Mission Bay Drive (via the ramp to Ingraham Street/Mission Beach). Take West Mission Bay Drive 1.1 miles to Mission Boulevard [Belmont Park is on the corner]. Turn left on Mission Boulevard, take it until it dead ends, and turn left into Mission Point Park.
